Hey guys

After posting about my messages app not having full functionality I have noticed that iMessage has my old number.

I have signed out of all devices, checked I've got the right number under "phone", turned phone on/off again but still old number. As I am in Mexico at the moment and my phone is registered to oz I'm also having an issue with contacting support.

Can anyone talk me through how to solve this problem?

what do you have listed under settings --> messages --> Send & Receive ?

That only shows when I sign in with my Apple ID. I haven't done that yet as when I do that's when the old number shows

Sorry guys

I'm pretty new to iMessage setups, I'm guessing I should sign in then as it can't be used without doing this?

Ok, let's do this first on all your devices (if in case you're signed in on those):

Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out. Then disable imessage
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out. then disable facetime.

Then on your phone only, enable imessage and facetime and sign in accordingly if it prompts.

does it now show your current number? If it does, you can then proceed to re-enable on other devices.

Your phone has 1 phone number.
Your contacts > pull down, it shows above search.
You can also connect phone to itunes, and it will list the phone number there

Under settings > messages > devices 'text msgs forwarding' will list which devices are signed in to imsg for text forwarding

also under settings> msgs > 'send & receive' is your logged in with apple-id list of numbers/emails that you can receive and send imsgs on/from.

If imsg devices lists devices that aren't yours, then someone else has your apple-id and logged in on those remote devices.

If imsgs lists send/receive msgs on numbers or emails that aren't yours, then someone has your apple-id and used it to get your msgs.

You can change your password to apple-id here https://appleid.apple.com/, as well as manage your devices, and other security stuff.
[doublepost=1477678373][/doublepost]Maybe worth noting, if you got a local pre-paid sim card and put that in your phone, obviously it's a different number than the normal telecom number's sim card at home .. since you're in mexico now ..

Ok thanks guys

So I've just signed in to FaceTime and iMessage and it only shows my email address now (no more old number :). However my new number isn't there yet.

From this point should I do the sign out, disable, restart thing now..?

actually, can try just disabling and renabling.
if that doesn't work, then do --> sign out --> disable --> enable --> sign in
if that doesn't work, then sign out --> disable --> restart --> enable --> sign in

So I've done all and number is still not showing. Furthermore in iMessage and FaceTime first screen it just says "waiting for activation". Should I just wait? I did read that it may take 24 hours.

One thing I noticed is that if I just toggle on/off both apps I get an instant flash up saying "an error has occurred". Like I said it is as soon as I turn it back on, does this mean anything more?

Thanks guys

hmmm...that "an error has occurred" doesn't sound familiar but does seem like it would affect imessage from picking up the number / activating correctly.

Are you on wifi? if not, maybe just need to try again when you have a better connection.
almost there though...

Yeh I'm on wifi and trying lte as well now. Off to the gym, will try wifi there and then if nothing will leave it for 24hours see what happens

It could be my carrier Movistar blocking something as the pop up is so quick it's almost like an automatic setting doing it

So got it sorted. Had to contact service provider and recharge a small amount for a setting to go through.

Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated
[doublepost=1477707247][/doublepost]Well I spoke too soon. The number, although there is greyed out.

This is doing my brain in, does anyone know what I should do?

There's a checkbox next to the number though, correct? If that's the case then that's the correct state (checked and grayed). Essentially meaning your "send & receive" has to at least be that number for it to work and you have the option to add something else like an email.

Thanks

But now the person who I know has iMessage I'm getting failed messages meaning they are not delivering. Is iMessage really that complicated?
[doublepost=1477708913][/doublepost]Thanks
It seems to be working now, now to set it up with the iPad hahaha (I'm swearing already)
