iMessager from Ipad to Iphone

I playing around with ipad and iphone last night. I was able to send messages back and forth between both ipad and iphone. Which I wasn't sure was possible. I wondering how (if it all) is possible to have a text conversation on an iphone and then goto ipad and continue the conversation keeping same coversation stream?

Not to mention I wondering how I start a conversation with iPad. Can I send a message to a phone number address if it is (1) an iphone and (2) be updated with iOS 5.

If want send an message to a given iTouch or iPad I need have there Apple id email addy? Thoughts?

iMessages uses your DATA connection instead of SMS.
That is why you can send "text" messages from the iPad.

You can send a message to ANY DEVICE that has iOS 5 on it.
It can be an iPhone, an iPod Touch, an iPad.

Yea I know this.. your not shedding light on an answer.

I'm asking about how does number validation work?

Asking if the apple ID email address is key to sending messages?

also wondering if possible have conversation migrate from iphone to iPad not sure I see that is possible and thought that was a capability?

I thought iMessage would allow you to send a text message to someone that was not on a iPhone. Does that work on the iPad? I would like to replace text plus.

I believe with person is iphone iOS5 or apple ID addy with iOS5 you can send them messages.

I was under the same impression as you but sadly, I don't think that's how it works.

My wife and I have been iMessaging back and forth today (iphone to iphone) but none of the messages appear on my iPad. Last night, I sent her an iMessage from my iPad but I was only able to have that conversation on my iPad. None of those messages appeared on my iPhone.

Last night I was messing around with my iPads and was able to send message from iPad to iPhone no problems. From my iPad, I just entered my number and hit send and that worked fine. From my iPhone I entered the email address for each iPad and that worked good too.

I was thinking just like OP but afraid of the privacy concern. Let's say I was txting from my iPhone to my friend, but if the way it works like OP said then anyone can read that text on my iPad that uses the same accounts. But that's not the way it works. It looks like you can send text per device basis not per account.

Okay, I was having the same issue and here is what I came up with:

In your settings menu on both iphone and ipad, go to messages > receive at and make sure that your email address is listed in here (the email address that all of your friends/contacts would also have). At first, I had my apple ID address in there and it is a different address than what I use for email communication with everyone, so I added my regular email address, and removed my apple ID address.

Then, on your iPad, in the receive at menu, go to caller ID, and change it to your primary email address. I think that on iphone, you want to leave this as your phone number, but I am not sure about that.

Now, making sure that the other party has your email address in your contact info on their phone, you can start an iMessage conversation with them, and continue the conversation on the ipad and vice-versa. Each new message that you send from either device will show up on both devices, and new messages will also be received at both devices.

This setup has been working for me this morning, seems kind of a pain in the ass to make sure that everyone has your email address stored on their iphone, maybe there is an easier way.

Interesting I will have to give that a try when I get home but yea wondering why have to be that difficult to do. The promo stuff for this made look like it was automatic/seamless. No so.. lol.
