iMessages broken on iPad

It's stuck at the point it stopped working (day before yesterday).

Tried rebooting and signing out / back in, no joy.

Are there any other things I could do short of a complete wipe and reinstall?

I once had this same issue but then went into my iCloud settings and realized I had iMessage turned off for iCloud so it wasn’t syncing across my devices like it should’ve. Look into your iCloud settings and double check it shows that iMessage is enabled. It should look like this…

I've enabled it - and turned off / turned back on iMessage.

No change so far but I'll see how it goes.

@seggy, when you say it's broken, what exactly isn't working? Are you unable to send and receive? Is it not syncing across devices? More detail about the problem would be helpful.

Glad to help! It may take a bit of time to sync your messages across your devices, although I think it may speed it up if you connect your ipad to a charger and make sure it’s on WiFi. Let us know if you need any more help!

Well, there's a few things that can not work related to Messages, so no, it wasn't obvious, at least to me. Is the problem only with iMessages or SMS messages? When you re-enabled Messages, did you get the Activation notification? Are you getting any error messages? Are you on iPadOS 14.6?

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If iMessage doesn't work, you can't receive text messages, or you see an alert when you send a message, learn what to do.

Update: Looks like it's still not working properly. The messages were up to date as of yesterday but a couple of new messages I got this morning to afternoon still haven't shown up.
