iMessages without an iPhone?

I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion and start using Messages on my Mac, however, I am using a Note2.

1. Can I use Messages with other Mac users and iPhone users even though I have an Android?

2. If so, does it connect to my email address?

3. Does this mean that texts/SMS messages will go to my Note2 and only iMessages will go to my Mac?

You set up an email with iMessage. That's your imessage ID. You can use it to send messages from any iOS device or Mac. But your phone won't get imessages.

Msgs come in to imessage green, can I message out to a google contact from imessage?/when there isnt already a convo started

did the message come to your ios device (iphone or ipod touch)? i doubt it.

it probably came to messenger on your mac because you might have added your google acccount on the messenger program?

anyways, this is one reason why proprietary things are bad. i recommend using multiplatform tools like - google hangout, or whatsapp etc. these are available on every platform.

I never said anything about an ios device.

My apple ID is my Gmail so the gmail has always been linked to OSX for IMessage. I just randomly started getting normal (green) messaged from google users

The OSX Message app is multiplatform; it's long handled Google Talk.

Think of it as iMessages plus other stuff. The messages coming in via Google aren't iMessage messages.
