iMetal for iPhone 3GS!! - Metal Detector

iMetal is a metal detector using the compass as a sensor - check out the video demo at www.imetalapp.com

Using iMetal:
1) Calibrate iMetal by shaking your iPhone 3GS in an area free of metal objects. When iMetal reads "Ready", you can can begin scanning.
2) Place iPhone 3GS over metal objects. The sidebars will increase relative to the strength of the magnetic field.
3) When a strong magnetic object is detected, iMetal will vibrate and sound.

ditto..interesting idea and interesting use of the magnetic field. this sounds like it could work well but i would b VERY skeptical if i was buying out of the blue. I have no problems with helping out your sales with a brilliant review providing that i can actually say.. "Metal detector? ..there's an app for that."

I think the concept is great and the app looks superb but, unfortunately, I'm not sure as to how useful the app would be for "real" use (I.e. Beyond it's undoubted novelty appeal) due to the limited sensitivity inherent in using the magnetometer.

Don't get me wrong - it's well worth the 59p simply for the novelty but I couldn't get it to detect anything smaller than a radiator or any further away than 6 inches.

Also it will not detect buried cables in Walls (presumably because they are copper rather than ferrous metals)


in conclusion I'd say it's a great app that's worth your money for a bit of fun, but don't expect to find buried treasure with it

In this case it might, the current flowing through the copper wire will still create a magnetic field. Just depends on how sensitive the 3GS magnetometer is.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear: I meant I couldn't get it to detect buried cables (either in stud partition walls or solid plastered walls) when I tried it.

I bought the app and I must say AMAZING idea. Seems to work well, though I think there should be a way to calibrate when the alarm sound goes off. Also the alarm sound should be louder.

I wish I could tell you that I`ll write a review for it, but dont have a 3GS yet. Waiting till Aug before launches it here. I m interested in this app and would have loved a promo code. M going to buy this or a similar better(if any) app for sure once I get my hands on 3GS in 3 weeks. Please do share the promo code if you can wait 3 weeks for an honest review. See I was honest enough to tell you I dont have a 3GS for next 3 weeks atleast

Ok... So what make this app so special compared to the original, free & open source "Metal Detector Pro" ?

This looks like a nice app but it's definitely not "the original metal detector" for the 3GS. A quick search turned up at least 5 or 6 others that were released before this one.

Geez, some people find different apps more useful or entertaining. This is the first one I've installed on mine and I've enjoyed it for what it offers. Nothing more, nothing less.
