As of late my music has a tendency to skip while playing.

I know if my iPod started doing that it would probably be due to a hard drive error.

Is it possible the hard drive in my macbook is on the verge of dying on me??

It's a lot more likely that it was skipping because you were running low on ram and your hard drive was jumping all over the place. I'd still keep an eye on it tho. ya never know..

Back up your stuff just in case.

I don't think music skipping would be a sign of a failing hard drive though - you'd get a lot more problems than skipping music.

As said, could be RAM getting filled up, doing anything else while listening to music? Installed any mods on iTunes recently? Visualizer running in background by mistake?

Have you run Disk Utility on it? If you run disk utility, and click on the drive in question, you should see something near the bottom of the window labeled "S.M.A.R.T. status." "Verified" means the drive is okay. Anything else could mean trouble.

In any case, it's always a good idea to back up your files, so if haven't, do it now. :)

Hard drive is all backed up as of yesterday, I'm being careful.

I may have had photoshop cs2 running actually, that could explain it seeing as it's running under rosetta with 1gig of ram.

S.M.A.R.T is verified.

Maybe i'm slightly paranoid as my friend's macbook's hard drive just died on him.
