iMovie 4 Effects

Hi. I am using iMovie 4. Anytime I add a Trans or Effect to a clip, the sound of the clip I applied the Effect to gets quieter. Is this normal?

Also, I'm using iDVD 4. Everytime I finish burning a project iDVD "Quits Unexpectedly". The very first time I used iDVD everything was fine. Upon completion of a burn, it gave me the option to burn another disc. Now it just quits. Anyone know why?
