iMovie Events on AppleTV?

I am working on a project to transfer a lot of old home video analog to digital. After the transfer (another thread) it first sits in iMovie events as .mov clips From these "raw" clips I plan to eventually edit them down into shorter, watchable movies. My plan is to have them in digital format on the computer or .mac gallery and burn to DVD. You get the idea.

I think if I finish a project I can save to media gallery and have that in iTunes to play on my AppleTV.

Does anyone have suggestions for how I could view the unedited clips on AppleTV while they are residing on my computer? It seems a waste to have all that footage available to watch on the tv and not have access to it.

I was able to put a clip in iTunes and play it there, but it doesn't show in the menu on AppleTV. I'm assuming it is a format issue (AppleTV doesn't want .mov files?)

Any suggestions would be great. I'm a new Apple TV owner and I'm looking for all the ways I can use this in my home.

Try exporting for Apple TV from iMovie first.

Am I creating a second file at that point? Do I need to make the raw footage an iMovie "project" and then export it for AppleTV?

I'm trying to find a process that does not unnecessaryily increase the number of files on my drive and/or prevent me from using the file for editing at a later date.

Yeah, it would be another file. I have a similar issue and debate whether to keep all the original media for future editing since every encode decreases quality...
