For a client of the company where I work, I had to create a video composed of nine short testimonial clips supplied by participants of one of our workshops. Two were recorded via Zoom, and the rest were recorded on various smartphones. Some were in MP4 format, and some were in MOV format. I normally use Adobe Premiere CC for the few video projects I'm assigned, but since this was a simple project and I was curious about iMovie, I decided to give that a try.
For two of the MP4 clips I imported (one from a smartphone and one exported from a recorded Zoom session), the first two seconds of audio were missing. The other seven clips were fine. I deleted the two clips and re-imported them, but that didn't solve the problem. The audio was present when I played the clips in QuickTime. I ended up doing the project in Premiere, and the audio was fine on all the clips.
Does anyone have any idea as to what the cause of the problem might be? This is a matter of curiosity rather than urgency, since I had Premiere at my disposal, but I'd like to play with iMovie some more for simple home projects, and I don't know whether I'll encounter this problem again. I'm using a 2019 27" iMac i5 with 24 GB of RAM, running the latest versions of macOS and iMovie.
