I was wondering about this too. Makes sense that the 3GS would get it since it has video capability. 3G and 1G are definitely out though...

I'm pretty tempted to get an iPhone 4 though, so I'm not sure it's going to matter. :D

Nope

It doesn't work on 3GS, I emailed Steve jobs and he responded like this:
Nope, sorry.

Dear Mr Jobs,

Whilst i appreciate that you must be very busy right now, I was wondering if you could answer my question. Will the new iMovies app work on the iPhone 3GS?
Thanks
Simon

Before you right this off, its genuine - sjobs@apple.com :apple:

As a 3GS owner, I would love iMovie as an app, but I'm sure that it requires some serious horsepower and I'm sure the A4 processor will play a big part in making it run smoothly. But that's just my 2 cents.

Nope, not even going to be on iPad last I heard. Likely the iPhone 4's 512MB RAM plays a LARGE part in this.

As a developer I can confirm I don't think is marketing, but it's probably a RAM issue. Handling video requires a lot of RAM and the 3GS has half the RAM of the iPhone 4.

I'm starting to work on getting it to run. I can get iPad apps to run on my iPhone 3G, so getting iMovie to work shouldn't be a problem. Although iFile isn't working for me, so I have to wait for the developer to post an update on Cydia.

With the 3GS, you'll only be editing VGA movies, not 720p. I don't buy the RAM excuse.
