I first noticed this on the 3rd iPad Pro (selecting many photos or videos causes it to lag. I decided to make sure it wasn’t just my fastest device, so I tried doing the same on my iPhone XS Max and 9.7” Pro, both were just as slow, anyone else have issues with iMovie? Could it be a RAM thing or possibly a graphics thing? (*hoefully not.)

Kallum.

I will test iMovie and see what happens. I’ve got a 4GB I’m using and my 6GB model. Technically, these new iPad pros only have 3.69GB of available ram so it is possible it is using a lot of it. I had this problem with Adobe rush, never tried iMovie though.

Is it 4K 60FPS footage? About how long are the videos?

UPDATE:

Alright, so I just put about 2 hours of footage in iMovie, 4K 60FPS, and a mix of 1080P 60FPS, and recorded gameplay. I’m jumping front to back of the entire reel, adding in large files in random areas of the reel over and over, and repeating the process. Removing them, and adding them. It is ridiculously smooth on the 1TB iPad. Actually, I like iMovie so far. This is my first time trying it!

I’ll see how it goes on the 512GB, although just like I found in Adobe Rush it would lag, so it may be a similar situation like before. But I’ve got a feeling, we shall see.

The iPad Pro 3rd gen has a lot of cpu power to easily handle applications like this. If you are seriously editing videos, and want a smooth experience; you already know what you have to do lol.
