Just got iLife '06 today and in checking things out noticed a THEMES tab in iMovie. I did a double take thinking I was actually working in iDVD! Anyway there are really cool themes that are actually incorporated into the DV sequence and are integrated with the iDVD themes too. Very impressive.

Has anyone made a movie or know of a site using these iMovie themes that we can look at? To be honest, I'm having trouble seeing their use. Are they just glorified transitions? I mean, when I make a movie I like the movie to use the whole screen.
Yes, I watched the Keynote, but that was kind of out of context. I'd like to see a real movie.

Yes, they're glorified transitions and chapter markers from what I can figure out after an initial play.
Rather than having to have the perfect shot as an introduction which you put titles onto, they allow you to use a 'theme' and drop in several shorter clips with a more animated title. Chapters should blend in better than having to do fade in/out between days on a holiday etc. You can still use regular transitions between 'theme' inserts.
Some of them are pretty clever (if the theme suits) - the idea of zooming out of one movie and panning across before zooming into another is quite fun.

I played with the new iMovie in the Apple store and noticed the themes. However, there are only four or five of them. They looked very similar to iWeb themes: Black reflections, travel etc. Once you use one of these themes for your iMovie and come across the same theme in a few websites, it gets old pretty fast.
I am pretty sure they'll ask for another $80 next year once they add three more themes.
