Imovie Unresponsive

Hi
when I open iMovie it beach balls then force quit option pops up
I have done the alt + cmd option and cleared the references
I have tried the opening via right click in package contents
still the same
Mac OS and apps fully updated
should I reinstall? don't want to loose my library

tried alt and command on opening followed by restart seems to be working again at the moment
