iMovie v3.0.1 - Has Update Solved Your Problems?

Having just read that Apple have already released a patch for iMovie3 (nice work Apple!), I was wondering whether how many folks here (who had experienced serious problems with the initial release) had tried it yet - and if so had it cured all their problems ?

My reason for asking is that the new v3.0.1 download is 81MB - and I would obviously rather not spend half the day downloading it, if I would be better off sticking to v2 !

The 3.0.1 download is the complete application. If you already have 3.0, I don't think you need to d/l the 81MB file.

If you use software update, you could probably just apply the patch. <---- I'm just speculating here. Don't know for sure.

I think you are correct ftaok, and thanks for the reply. But as I (fortunately) delayed downloading v3.0, that is why I am now faced with the 81MB download dilemma... And I also presume that all iLife box sets (out here in Hong Kong anyway) currently only come with v3.0

If you're trying to figure out whether you should update from iMovie2 to iMovie3, then I have to ask you, what kind of Mac do you have?

I can only relay my experiences. I have an iBook 500/10GB HD/640MB RAM. iMovie runs "decently" on my system. Yes, start-up takes a while. Yes, switching from one "function" to another (i.e. going from 'clips' to 'transitions') gives me the beachball. But in the end, everything works. With one exception. The "slider" is very choppy, and it really bugs me. There's a post about this in the software forum entitled "imovie frustrations".

I'm probably gonna switch back to iMovie2 because it's a little more responsive and the new features in iMovie3 aren't that revolutionary. Maybe I'll wait out a few patches before going back.

Still slow as hell

First, you can also download an updater from Apple (less than 1Mb, I think)

Second, installed it on my Cube and there's hardly no performance improvement.

Already removed the iMovie2 .plist file, didn't help.

Created an iMovie album in iPhoto and playlist in iTunes, but for some reason if you relaunch iMovie it always jumps back to the library as default, both for music and photos.

I'll switch back to iMovie2 for the quick and easy stuff and I'm learning to work with the big boys toy (FCP) now, to do the more serious stuff! )

Actually if my memory serves me correctly, it was 3.0.1 that was the first release, not 3.0. This was believed to be responsible in the delay for the iLife apps in the first place.

If you have iMovie 3.0, you can get the 3.01 update true software update, the patch should be around 800kbyte.

There are some people that have the 3.0 version iMovie. I think the early shipping boxes of iLife and maybe people with the 12" PBs.

I have a imovie3 question, while importing photos do you have to use the "Ken Burn's" effect?

I just need to have still photos without the zoom.
