Hello,
I have an old Pagemaker file that I tried to convert to PDF, but the old software on an old laptop does not allow it. I could only export as HTML.
I'd like to convert it to PDF, but cannot find a way to do it on my iMac.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Yes, I know I am way behind on updates, but I have to bring my iMacs to a store located 70 miles away because my Internet is so slow.

Open the HTML file in the TextEdit app on your Mac. In TextEdit, go to File > Export as PDF...

I just created a quick HTML file, opened it in Safari to be sure it works. I opened the HTML file in the TextEdit app and then exported it as a PDF file. Works in macOS Catalina.

Thanks, but that didn't work. I tried that first and all you see is the HTM code. When I exported that is just how it looked.
I am still at El Capitan. Maybe that is why it didn't convert.
Thanks

Open TextEdit and look in its Preferences window.

I don't have El Capitan here, but in earlier versions there was an "Open and Save" pane in TextEdit's Preferences window. Under that pane/tab there was a checkbox for "Ignore rich text commands in HTML files".

When this checkbox is checked, then HTML appears as HTML, which makes it possible to edit it.

When the checkbox is unchecked, then HTML is rendered like it would be in a web browser.

So if you see the checkbox is checked, then uncheck it. Then close and re-open the HTML file. It should render like it would in a web browser.

If TextEdit still won't open and render an HTML file, make sure the file has the extension ".html", and not something else.

As a last resort, you should be able to drag the file onto your web browser, and it should open and render there. Then you can Print the page, and Save as PDF from there.

Thanks! I'll check it out in the morning. Should have thought about printing to PDF, too.
Thanks again.

Yes, good catch! I forgot that you can Export as PDF directly from Safari's File menu. However, dragging an HTML file to Safari doesn't work here, you have to right-click, or Control+click, on the HTML file and go to the Open As menu to select Safari.

You might want to check out the TextEdit preferences, see screenshot:

Thank you! Open/Save preference worked quite well as did just printing to PDF.
Really appreciate you taking the time to respond.
