I would like to retire my CD changer for good. Right now, it has all of my DJ-mixed CDs (CDs that are continuously mixed, but with track numbers).

Is there a way to import the CDs and play them without iTunes? I would like to put all those CDs on my external drives (since I have 500 Gb of space instead of the 80 Gb on my 17" PowerBook).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can do this?

Is there a specific reason you don't want to use iTunes. You can put them on the external drives and still use iTunes without them being on the internal drive. Just curious about the need to not use iTunes.

Primarily, because when you import a continuously mixed CD in iTunes, you can't get the smooth transition from track to track without doing a "Join Tracks", which then just makes one big file with no way to go between tracks.

How do you use iTunes with multiple music libraries?

Damn.. You Can't? Don't tell my Powerbook :)

iTunes >> Preferences >> Audio >> Crossfade Playback

I use a external drive myself.. It will do what you need it to...

Not sure what to tell you about getting better playback, but....

About the multiple libraries, not sure if its what you mean but when I import songs I don't let iTunes put them in the music folder. So I have one library but the songs can be stored anywhere, and on external drives. I just turned off the feature in the advanced section of the preferences. Sorry if you already know about that.

About the Crossfade Playback: It's not the same thing as to what I am talking about. In the continously-mixed CDs, there is no fade between one track to the next - it's seamless. I like the Crossfade feature, but it doesn't quite replicate what I am looking for. Maybe I need to fiddle with it some more.

Mr. Poop :): I'm not sure if I follow you. Doesn't iTunes need you to specify a location for imported music? The default is ~/Documents/Music, I know, but I'd like to be able to switch libraries on the fly if I want to use one of my external drives as a CD jukebox. So what I want is 2 music libraries: one on my PowerBook, one on an external drive. I thought there was some haxie or script to do that...
