I'm fedup trying to sort out my contact list.

I get on itunes and check Sync contacts with google - but it doesn't allow me to check 'selected groups' (it stays grey) and i end up with 500 odd contacts whom I might have sent a mail to 1000 years ago.

I tried exporting selected contacts from gmail to outlook and then thought of importing it from outlook - but when i select my contacts and then export it exports in excel which outlook does not let me import for some reason. When i export as CV format only the 1st contact gets exported. :(

Now i have the one touch erase contacts from Cyndia but if I remove that application from my phone the contacts reappear.

Can someone guide me on how i can first erase all contacts from the phone permanently and then import only the ones I want to from gmail?

Thanks

I am interested to know how this is done as well. I just installed a Pioneer AVIC unit in my car and i don't want it to bring up every single contact every time i select contacts on the screen. I just want to sync the numbers i actually use.

You can do it the apple way

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Contents and Settings

Note: This will delete all media and data. All settings will be reset as well.

or the hacker way

/var/mobile/Library/AddressBook and delete the
AddressBook.sqlitedb and AddressBookImages.sqlitedb files.

this this should delete out contacts on iphone. The DB should be rebuilt, with no contacts when the app is opened again.

Just in case!! Copy the files to your computer. Responsibility is all yours
!!

Just an easier way then resetting all settings and having to sync everything back all over again.
