Importing InDesign template

It should, but fonts are always the first problem when working cross-platform.
As soon as you open it, before you even do anything with it, save it as a Mac file... which you'll kind of have to do anyway as it's a template.
In these circumstances, I would always try to get hold of a hard copy of something created with that template preferably marked-up so that I can see what it's supposed to look like.

You've got to have the identical fonts if everything is going to flow correctly. Fine if they're OpenType or TrueType, not so fine if they're Windows PostScript.
Ask the person who is giving you the file to package it into its own folder. i.e. collect all the related and used files, incuding fonts. This is in addition to whatever other resources you might need from them, Photoshop files and the like.

This isn't something I've had to do before so apologies for the questions. I noticed that graphics can be embedded into the file but haven't noticed anything about embedding fonts.
If it can't be done that way I'll ask for everything to be put into the folder.

Packaging is not imbedding... all it does is collect the file itself, and all the linked files and the fonts that are used in the project into a new folder.
Ah, sorry, didn't make myself clear enough. What I was thinking was that the simplest way would be if everything could be embedded into the file but that as an alternative I would ask for everything to be packaged into one folder as you suggest.

And now for the update, sorry it's taken a while.
When I received the template I couldn't open it but it turned out to be nothing to do with Mac/Windows. It was done in InDesign CS2 but I only have CS. When I downloaded CS3 for a 30 day trial it opened it with no problem at all and substituted some of the fonts used for ones available on my machine.
I haven't yet decided whether to upgrade only InDesign or to go for the whole CS3, so can't use the template long term yet but it's nice to know that it's possible. Thanks again.
ps. thought you might be amused to know that I left the shift down too long when writing CS3 and got CS£ . . . quite appropriate, don't you think!?
