Hello! I have an older macbook pro 2011, with ssd 1 TB, that now unfortunately doesnt work due to graphic card problem (well known problem). I have to get my photos safe out from it, and i have started with taking out the SSD 1 TB and put it into a enclosure with usb C cable. I hope that i can import the photos library directly into my ipad pro (that also has 1 TB space).
I can find the external SSD under "files", and find the different maps and libraries etc, but i cannot figure out how to import the pictures.
Does anyone know?

Thanks for reading!

Sincerely
Harald

You could temporarily fix your MacBook Pro by heating it up. I remember hearing that somebody fixed their 2011 MacBook Pro graphics with a hair dryer.

This falls into the proverbial, Never made a backup, never turned on iCloud or other photo backup? And refuse for whatever (good rational) reason to make a local backup or use any cloud based method.

How many GB are you talking about?
Any plans to upgrade to a new laptop? Borrow someone’s?

I have backups, just not for the last months. The files are safe, and i know i can use another mac. Just a bit organising..
Would be nice though, to be able to go directly to the new Ipad :D

Not sure if it can help you but I know that there are devices that allow you to treat an internal hard disk or SSD as an external drive. I had issues with my previous laptop. The disk itself got affected and basically it would show that there are failing segments. Naturally I had to change it as the failing segments were on the partitioning where Windows is installed and this affected the way the system was working (not working sometimes). So I basically asked my best friend to open the laptop, we replaced the disk with a new one, but he also gave me such device and I managed to plug in the old disk and transfer my media files (movies, music, photos) to the new disk.

So maybe that is worth checking. It is a bit cumbersome though.

Thanks, thats cool! i´ll search on youtube ;D

Thank you!

You are welcome! Keep us as posted if you can find such device. Honestly I do not know the price and I don't know how much is worth it. My friend had it so he basically borrowed it to me and I did not have to pay for it :).

I plan now to buy myself external SSD where I can backup my most important files. Not a fan of cloud storage for movies and photos. I like to keep my RAW files and those take a lot of space. Plus I like to have access to my stuff offline.

Thanks, I will let you know how this ends up!
