Impossible to totally turn off internal monitor?

I've got a G5 1.9Ghz iMac with a screen which turned completely green one day, so I found a pretty good external monitor and plugged it in and put the iMac under the desk, so is there any way turn the main monitor completely off so I don't always have a green glow under my desk and to save energy?
I take it there's no setting on the system and I'll have to get some obscure third party program, right?

Yes, turn the brightness on that monitor all the way down.

That still isn't very low. Since it broke, black = green. So I'd like it to just power off.

no easy way

yes, but only the hard way. take it apart, remove the inverter for the backlights (module, can remove from the logic board, and unhook the display cable near the top. back together, restart, good to go. profiler will show your external hooked up, and nothing under the interal display. actually helps with the quality of display as the imac won't need to share the vram between the two after you unhook the dead internal.

used a 1.6 g5 imac like this for awhile. in my case, i actually removed the entire lcd screen when i had it apart as it let more air in, and the imac ran much cooler/quieter. best of luck.
