After reading so many good feedback on the base model Air, I decided to go to Apple store to check it out. Size and weight wise, it's indeed the best travel laptop. However, I have two observations:

1. boot up time: i timed it 31 second, from totally shut down to the dock comes up.

2. i played this youtube video at 1080p: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N2YWRJ-ppo, and it's very choppy. Turned it down to 720p, it's better, but not totally smooth. 480p is very smooth. (yes there's no point watching 1080p on its small screen, but i just want to see how its video card performs).

Interesting, as I can play that video on 1080 or 720 and smooth as any other computer I've watched that on. I have the 1.4/2gig/128ss model. Zero issues and have been putting it thru it's paces since i picked it up about 12 hours ago. I opened 56 tabs in Safari and while it showed less than 50mb of unused memory, I was able to start a video from CNN without issues. I have yet to even see the fans spin beyond 2000 RPM according to iStat, running Hulu has around 60% CPU free and 500 or so mb of ram free.

Who knows what's going on, but nothing like the experience I have observed so far.

* I am using Chrome as a browser, did not download flash 10.1 for Safari, as Chrome has it built in went for it as I prefer it as anyhow.

There's also a Flash version that offers hardware acceleration for the 320m video card. I'm not 100% sure if it's in the final version of 10.1 or not, but the "Gala" releases do have it in there. Try that and see. Or use Chrome as suggested. :)

In installed Flash 10.1, and I can play 1080p content from YouTube without a hiccup. The demo at the store probably had an older version of Flash.

That's very possible. Thanks for checking it out. Although I won't choose to watch 1080 on this Air, knowing it can handle it with the right version of flash is still comforting :)

Just curious: do you use chrome or safari?
