What iOS / device are you on? Can't really do anything about icon spacing / layout (#2) but for #1, I don't see that on either my iPhone (6s, iOS 10.0.2), nor ipads (pro 12.9 iOS 10.0.2 & iPad 3, iOS 8) in both landscape and portrait orientation.

I believe that's because you are using Google's AMP container (which loads the extra header with the site name) to view articles rather than seeing them directly on their own sites. That aside, as you start scrolling through a page the URL/search bar at the the top and the navigation bars at the bottom will shrink/disappear.

Interestingly, on an AMP site the URL bar does not disappear for me either. I googled "apple", and one of the links was an AMP to Engadget. You can scroll to the bottom but the bar is still there. On a 7+, not a big deal.
Must be something odd about the AMP implementation. You can go to the same article on Engadget directly and have a normal (and better) experience with it.

I had not noticed, but I don't see it as a big deal on the Plus size iPhone anyway. I was just verifying what the OP had mentioned.
Hey hey, that happens to me some times on my Air 2 with 9.5. Didn't happen on 9.2.3.4. Do as I do, give up on all those little things. Best way not to get upset or angry at Apple.
Sounds like the sites aren't fully loading for some reason. Are you using any content blockers? Any network slowdowns or issues?
I was using Purify but it is turned off. Has been happening two or three times over the last hour. Never on this site, though. Now I'm trying to post this response and when I hit post reply it stays red but won't post. Tried ten times. Rebooted iPad and now trying again.
