Improve DVD video playback on new 13" air

Hi all.
I am not sure that anything can be done about this, but its worth a try.
I have a new 13" with 4G of RAM.
When playing DVDs on the Apple Air USB DVD player, the video can get quite jumpy when the screen image is complex. Pans are especially challenging. This is when the computer is driving a 1920X1200 external monitor. Maybe the computer is just not up to driving this monitor...
The computer does not seem to be working hard at all. It is stone cold after a two hour playback.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just tried it on a MBA 13", 4GB using a LG Blu-ray player via USB driving an external 1920x1200 monitor and haven't noticed any stuttering.

I'm using the DVD Player program.

I assume what you wish to know is that I am using DVD player in the Mac OS.
Please let me know if there is something else I should try.

Have you noticed if the DVD drive is stopping and restarting? I've seen windows machines do that.

Are you running fullscreen?

Anything else running on the machine which might be interrupting it?

Hi again.
I was running the air with the screen open and both its screen and the monitor being driven together. Running the Air closed and only driving the external monitor seems to have greatly improved things. I'll play a movie or two and see if it is consistently better.
