Okay at work I'm in a remote area in California. My 1st generation phone worked perfect. I could receive and make calls. Now I have the 3G and I get no bars what so ever. Eventually I'll receive a text message and voice mail like 2 hours later. But as soon as I try to call the "No SERVICE" icon appears.
The whole reason I bought the newer phone was for the 3G network. I still haven't seen how the thing really works yet.
Any idea as to what is going on?

Likely you are on the edge of 3G coverage. Turn off the 3G and you should be restored to EDGE service, and everything should be fine. You can turn back on the 3G when you get closer to the metro areas.

Works just like you said. Thank you!! Still paying so much for a phone seems like I shouldn't have to do that. But at least I can make calls now. :)

It seems to be a flaw with the 2.0 firmware, where if there is even a thread of 3G signal, it won't failover to EDGE even if the EDGE signal is 5 bars and the 3G is 1.
