iOS in app purchase - free magazine issue (help a beginner please)

Hi,

I have a quick question about magazine apps.

"Magazine XYZ" sells printed magazines. They also have an iOS app, where they sell every issue via in-app-purchases. When a customer buys a printed issue, he can unlock that issue inside the app, for free, so he can enjoy the mag on his iPad or on paper.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this before, but I can't remember where. Can you tell me the name of the mag?

Also :

How does it work?
-- There is some kind of unlock code available in the print edition? The user enters the code and downloads the issue?
-- It's some kind of promo code giving a 100% discount?
-- Anything else?

I've only ever done it with subscribed magazines not with individual purchases.

Yeah me too. But I'm positive: I have seen this before, I'm pretty sure.

Or maybe it was some kind of "supplement" content for a printed book? Buy the book, get the iPad supplement for free. Or pay for the supplement if you don't have the book.
