Recently updated to MacOS 10.15.4 and it seems that I am having trouble maintaining connection to my network attached storage to my last generación AirPort Extreme.

Does anyone know of any workarounds to fix it?

Tried rebooting the computer, router and finder by itself to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, SMB absolutely sucks in Catalina.

If your NAS supports it, enable AFP instead, and use that. For example, for my Synology NAS, instead of using "smb://diskstation.local" from Finder, I use "afp://DiskStation._afpovertcp._tcp.local" instead, which forces the connection to use AFP, which is *much more* reliable.

With SMB, I used to get frequent drop-outs, and then issues trying to reconnect. And it was only Catalina (iOS devices did not have an issue connecting to the same NAS on the same network).

Are you connecting with the SMB protocol? Users are reporting problems with SMB in Catalina.

Yes, now that you mention it, I just noticed that I do use SMB on my NAS.

now that you mention it, it’s true that I haven’t had any problems on my iOS devices connecting to the NAS.

One question though, AFP would only be accesible on Apple devices?

Thanks for the heads up guys. I’ll see what I can do.

PS: I just found myself in a bind. For some reason Apple AirPort Extreme (ac version) I haven't found a way to switch from SMB to AFP for it's NAS. Haven't even found that it's indeed compatible (which would be odd) but if anyone figures it out please send me the link. Thanks.

Do you use the name of the nas or the ip?

Using smb://nameofthenas/shares/ hasnt ever worked well if not at all. I always use the ip-address instead of the device name.

But wow, how horrible slow Finder is now to show content... took 5min to show thumbnails of 77 items
