So basically because Apple isnt acting on the Palm card patent, and now the Android Multitouch patent.. these other phones can do what iphone can't (unless JB) and now everything iphone can do so can they...

SO what am I getting at?? in the 4.0 Update Apple needs to make a serious movement towards customization. meaning listen to the Jailbreakers...

1. winterboard, allow for custom themes place on itunes or whatever make them free or people can make them .99c or whatever... THIS MUST BE IN NEXT UPDATE!!!! people love android cause of the customization there are great themes out there make them mainstream.

2. use the multitasking as palm does... its the best way to do it I feel just have a disclaimer that using multitasking lowers your battery life significantly.. I use multifl0w and it rocks (I realize there is another out there apparently better but I like multiflow)

3. BITE SMS!!! I honestly cannot believe they havnt updated this yet, the most annoying thing about texting is that it dissrupts whatever you are doing then closes it when you answer the text.. Make it mainstream to be able to respond whenever without closing BITESMS does this remarkably

4. OS wide landscape, including the springboard.. you should be able to have the springboard flip as you flip the phone

5. BETTER E-MAIL... everyone goes to Blackberry because of their email clients, apple needs to revamp the whole emailing thing...

6. BBM... or better yet, iphone to iphone messaging but better.. have it a universal messaging system where you can have all your networks in one (yahoo, Iphone, MSN, facebook, etc.. .)

7. File system.. allow the email or 3rd party programs to save files to the phone in directories as a hard drive would... be able to ship files on your phone as an external hard drive...

8. Lastly FLASH... I know if they enable flash, then people will be playing games online instead of buying them from the itunes store and people will create websites for the Iphone to play games and stuff on with flash... I also know they are waiting for HTML 5 to take off but its just not there yet to take over for Flash...

if these arnt addressed I really think android and blackberry will win this fight

People play online games with Flash? Yuck.

I think the only point I agree with is about the email. Iphone email is so hit and miss, and in a professional environment, BB do it far better.

Personal messaging system would be nice, but having specifically BBM would be pointless for me. The system would have to be accessible by all smart phones. BBM is just not the professional messaging system that it was intended to be.

Everything else, apple could keep the same and would have me for a customer.

They may win the fight for you, but not everyone else. Your list of fixes is nothing more than what you want. It does not mean everyone else needs these things as well. For me, I'm not really missing any of the things that you say Apple must do. Everyone has different needs, and it is a mistake to project your needs as what has to be done or else the iPhone will fail.

Compete by adding some customizations found on other phones? My old Windows Mobile 5 POS phone could customize like crazy, but it was a brutal experience overall and got boring after a while rearranging the furniture.

I get the need for better notification control, multi-tasking and better file control capabilities. But I do not think Apple is about adding some features to match a feature list of others. I also think the other phones are competing with Apple instead of the other way around - Google has only recently upped the bar of competitors. Apple is about the complete experience which is harder to copy through feature lists and requires the ability to form and yes, control much of the environment.

yes they do there are tons of sites out there where people will go to play games on for free.. apple doesnt want this to happen cause then why would anyone want to dl from itunes (within reason obviously not huge games)

here is an example
another example

Those games are all designed to work with mice and keyboards. Take a look, the iPhone doesn't have either of those things.

So all those games would have to be re-done as multitouch games and if you're going to do THAT why not make them in a format that the iPhone will use today?

In other words, adding flash will NOT instantly open up all sorts of online games for iPhone users.
