In-Store availability of aTV 3rd Generation

Hi all,

I am looking to go in-store friday to get the new aTV. My question: Do you think arriving 2 hours after opening will lead to a out-of-stock? Do I have any hope of getting one one that day or am I better of buying it online?

Not that it should matter, but I live in Ottawa, Canada, planning to go to the Rideau Apple Store.

I plan to arrive at the Apple store at 10 a.m. when they open. I'm hoping that all of those in line will be for the iPad. I was in the store last weekend and the sales dude said that a separate line will be formed for those purchasing an iPad and all other shoppers will be able to enter the store as normal.

Oh, that is good. But honestly, who will be there, in line at 10 other that iPad enthousiastic and like, 10 geniuses appointements....?

Have either of you any experience with the prior ATV releases? Were there hardware shortages of any extent comparable to iPad?

I remember dogging it all around Southern California hunting for an iPad 2 last year, and it was such a pain. I don't think I can schedule a Apple Sick Day this year, but I'm also only looking to pick up just the ATV 3.

If I have to expect a similar Quest for the Holy Grail, I think I'm going to cry :]

Is it possible to buy the ATV online and to check in-store pick up ON Friday?

So far, the only option I see is to have it shipped directly to me, but I'd rather get it in an Apple Store.

I didn't even realize that it might not be an option to buy it in-store on release day. That's an even more troubling possibility.

I'll try calling an Apple Store in my area over lunch today and see what they have to say about availability.

I was convinced that Cook was going to announce immediate in-store availability because last Wendnesday morning there were trucks unloading into my local Apple store at 5:30AM.
Must have been something else.

The only Apple device I have ever purchased in store on launch day was the Apple TV 2. I was able to secure one at 7 p.m. that night.

I just got off the phone from the Apple Store in Raleigh, NC and they guy said that they are expecting a large shipment of the new AppleTV and they will go on sale at 8:00am (the same time the new iPad goes on sale). The store usually is open at 10. He did say to tell whoever was working the lines, that I am only there for the AppleTV. Maybe there will be two lines... oh and he said to get there EARLY!

I don't think you need to worry about the ATV3 selling out on launch day. All the lines and news coverage will be for the iPad. The ATV will be a hidden gem. I plan on picking up 2 of them on launch day.
