Hey, guys!

So I am seriously thinking of getting a MBA 11". I work in tv and online media and I'm a producer/editor.

Now I'm in a bunch of meetings and tend to render things out on my machine often, so during that time I tend to use my iPad to browse the web or kill time, but the iPad just doesn't work to respond to dozens of emails or respond to IMs. I'd use my main machine but it is fickle and chugs when I try to multitask as I render out Final Cut files or After Effects files.

On top of that, the iPad just doesn't work well when I need to alter excel files or power point files which i get often. I have Numbers and Keynote, but although they do help me when i need to view files, I just can't get the hang of actually altering files or creating files from scratch.

I was eyeing the MBA 11" because I love its footprint and it'd be easy to bring to work like my iPad and easy to lug to the plethora of meetings. But I need it to be able to open and alter the excel sheets, power points and emails I get.

But being an editor it'd also be nice if it can view HD videos so I can review files people send my way. Or even open Final Cut projects to review them or open After Effects files to review those as well.

I know it's not meant to edit in FCP and AE but if anyone has experience with this, it'd be nice to know if someone sent me a few projects that I can open and at least view them or make minor alterations.

I'm kind of all over the place here, but the iPad just isn't working out as I'd hoped for work. Even with iOS 4.2 installed, the multitasking is nice but just doesn't feel the same and it doesn't have the software I really need to create and view and alter things as I'd like. I'm ok with that, but before taking the plunge for an Air, I wanted to see peoples' experiences with the software I mentioned above to see if it's worth it.

Thanks!

You'll generally find the MBA much more powerful than the iPad. You should be no probably woking with iWork and office apps. In fact, microsoft words launches a lot quicker on the MBA than my MBP and iMac because of the FS.

However, I have no experience with pro apps and FCP and AE. You may wish to change your title to specifically ask about them.
