Don't put your laptop on the bed, especially when it feels hot. The vents on the Air are pretty limited, and they are positioned such that any soft surface will cover the vents. Then, your notebook has no way to vent out the heat. The fan runs and runs, and probably shuts down.

You say you don't know how to use leopard. Are you new to computers? Or are you new to macs? If you are new to computers, just take some time to get used to the leopard. Leopard is the easiest operating system in this world for people new to computers.

I am not sure if your machine "shut down". Maybe it went to "sleep" due to inactivity. This is a normal behavior in all new laptops. Do you see messages saying "your computer was not shut down..." etc?

Leopard is DEFINITELY worth learning and using. Loads better than Windows. Ironically...I'm using Windows now. Shame on me.

I am by NO means new at computers, just never had leopard before. I did try to use it for like 5 days before i got the superdrive, but I feel so limited at everything i do.. like if I want to install microsoft office, i cant because my cd is for windows, just stuff like that. Its just MUCH easier to use windows, of course. I use MSN messenger videochat ALOT, not possible with ichat, and just little stuff like that.

The best thing i liked about leopard was safari, other then that i dont see how everyone says its alot better than windows.

And windows said it was shut down improperly, everytime i woke up and the laptop was off, so im pretty dang sure it was overheated. Is it bad for the computer when it overheats like that?.. im guessing it cant be good but how bad is it?

why did you buy a mac in the first place? You should've bought that new Lenovo x300.

I wouldve NEVER bought a MacBook Air, but i HAD to take this one..

Bestbuy lemoned out my Sony Vaio SZ220/B, and to my FRICKIN surprise, i had 1799 towards my next laptop.. 1799 is what the SZ220 cost when it went out in the market. I only paid 999 for the SZ220, plus the 249 for the 3 year warranty.

BB calls me, i go and they say you have 1799 towards your next laptop, go pick soething out. they dont have ONE laptop in the store even CLOSE to the 1799 price tag, and the air was the only thing there.. OR a MBP for 2499.. i ended up getting the air, and i love it.. cept for a few things which i think windows XP will fix, vista truly does suck ALTHOUGH it runs amazing on the Air.. i know i know.. you apple fanboys think OSX is the best, but i just dont have enough experience with it, i dont feel comfortable when i use it.

I totally understand. That's exactly how I felt the first day I used OS X. But give it some time, and you'll realize we're not just "fanboy"ing around here.

Your story of acquiring the MacBook Air is the most interesting I have read so far.

I have seen this happening on my old Toshiba when I put it on battery for a long time, that it sleeps, sleeps, and when it runs out of juice, doesn't shut down properly. When I plug it in and switch it on the next time, it complains.

Check your battery settings on Windows. When you put it on your bed for the night, do you let it run on battery or power? Set the correct profile to allow it to sleep after, say, 15 minutes of inactivity.

Move your notebook out of the bed on to a desk, for one night to see if it is because of over-heating.

Another thing you can test is to see if your MBA sleeps and hibernates well. Set it to sleep, and wake it up. That should be fast. Set it to hibernate, and re-start it. It will boot up, but shouldn't complain of improper shut-down.

I agree it's a copout to install Windows just because you don't know how to use Leopard. Well we had to learn Windows at sometime in our lives, we have to learn the Mac OS otherwise it's really a waste of money and just a waste to buy a MBA just to use Windows...

I disagree. I've been using windows for 18 years. I've also used MVS, OS/2, OS/400, DOS, Sun Unix, various Linux variants, various Unix/Linux shells, and MAC/OS.

I use windows because I am a software developer in a corporate world developing apps using Microsoft tools. However I still have a choice, and I choose to use windows because I prefer it to MAC/OS.

Now, please don't flame me. I appreciate that I'm in a Mac forum, and I don't really expect to anyone to agree with me. But, please accept that there are people out there who make different choices. Because their choices are based on different criteria, and as such come out different to your choice, that doesn't make them the wrong choice. I'm not putting anyone down for choosing MAC/OS or any other OS for that matter - if it's right for them, then who am I to comment.

Again I disagree. Why did you buy an Air? You had a choice, but you chose the air because it met your requirements. Which I'm guessing were for a small, light, portable, powerful, stylish computer which doesn't sacrifice a usable keyboard or screen.

Those are exactly my criteria, and the air meets them. What's even better is that Apple has the foresight to allow me to choose windows if I wish, and even actively supports that choice by providing the bootcamp drivers.

I ordered an Air on the day I first saw it, and have been running Vista for 2 and a half weeks on it. I love it because it does everything my old Sony laptop did, but it's presented in a much better package with better screen, keyboard, and performance.

How is that a waste?

As for OPs original question, a laptop will consume a small amount of power, even when in standby. If you're on low battery, and leave it overnite it may drain the remaining battery which will cause your problem.

Are you connecting the power overnite? If not, give it a try and see if it makes a difference.

Also I cant let the computer sleep because.. well just because.
