I have two Mail accounts that are no longer active, however, I need to preserve the emails in the accounts. Ever since they have been disconnected every minute I get a system-level notification that each account's password needs to be entered. It is very annoying. Any suggestions on how to get this to stop?

Mail --> Settings... --> Accounts

Highlight the account you wish to deactivate.

In "Account Information" for that account uncheck "Enable this account".

That will preserve emails for POP accounts that you have downloaded to Mail.app

Are your accounts IMAP? In which case I'm not sure...
