I know the cross-section of iPhone users and sailors is a bit smaller than others, but still - realtime navigation with marine charts for sailing/boating!

Very cool, but an iPhone is the last thing I'd consider for marine nav for any number of reasons, not the least of which is the suitability and robustness of the hardware in a marine environment. Even more so than land nav, marine & aviation uses are places you either want the real thing, or stay ashore. As a secondary source of info or quick reference (or just to impress your friends with!), sure, but anyone that puts to sea with this as their primary nav is a Darwin Award waiting to happen.

Ah! Nice.

But if you already have a navigation system, why would you need this?

if your nav system is down at your nav table, and you're in the cockpit, it could be handy. it also works standalone on an iphone. i'm going to use it standalone, but only as a secondary device to paper charts!
