Where I got it: Target believe it or not, they had a great selection of incase stuff. It was 29.95$ before taxes
First impressions: The case is similar to other snap on cases already released like the incipio feather or case mate's barley there. It however differs in the texture and ultralight perforated design. This makes it a unique case unlike any other i've seen before and it was the reason I had to pick it up.
Protection: The case is what I consider to be a basic surface scratch protection case. You would not want to drop your ipod in this case. I however do think it is good enough for basic day to day use. It will protect from those light surface scratches you would get when putting your ipod down onto say a table. If you drop stuff a lot, you may want to look at slightly more protective cases like the incase slider or the contour showcase, both more protective but still fairly slim cases. The case actually has a very, and I mean very small lay on the table design. It is hardly a lay on the table design but does keep the screen from ever so slightly touching the table it's being placed face down on. I have a screenshield on my iPod but still do not put it down face down. The lay on the table design just isn't big enough. Unlike the incipio feather, the top of the iPod is left completely open. It does not bother me as the top of my iPod is fairly scratched at the top already, and that level of paranoia had since passed. There is a small strip of plastic going above the volume rocker switch when the case is on the iPod. I like this touch, as some other cases of this sort leave it open. The bottom of the case also leaves the chrome completely open for access to your ports. Again, if you do mind scratches on the chrome part above the dock connector and headphone jack you may want to steer clear. When viewing the front of the iPod, you are able to see the a thin strip of chrome bezel between the iPod's screen and the plastic case. This I've found makes the case look pretty sharp. Overall this case offers lightweight protection from scratches but no drop protection.
Design: What makes this case so unique is of course the perforated design. A first for an iPod touch case as far as I know. incase says there are almost 1000 holes in each of the cases. When the case is viewed from the back, the incase logo in subtly visible between the perforations on the lower left side of the case. The chrome on the back of the iPod shows through the holes which looks really cool, especially when the light hits it. I like that incase kept their logo subtle as I don't case much for cases that have a huge logo smack dab in the middle of the back of the case ala speck candyshell. The model of perforated snapcase I have has a matte black texture on the back of the entire case as well as the inboard. It feels similar to the rubberized coating on matte black incase sliders. The coating has shown no signs of peeling in the 2 weeks i've used it. It has held up very well. The perforations combined with the soft touch coating make for a bit more of grip than if you were holding the iPod naked. It isn't a lot of grip like a silicone case, but it does ad at least a little grip. Overall great, well thought-out incase design.
Conclusion: Th incase perforated snap case appealed to me as I had never seen a case like it before. The unique perforated design combined with the chrome shining though it looks sharp and even had apple employees at my local apple store asking what kind of case it was. As far as I'm concerned if you're looking for a basic scratch protection case that looks sharp and you never drop your stuff this case would serve you well. If you ever even do drop your iPod once in a while I would steer clear from this case as it doesn't offer much in the ways of drop protection. Instead I'd go with something like the aforementioned incase slider of even the contour showcase. Lastly, the perforated snap case is not cheap for over 30 bucks for a piece of plastic, but I guess you could say that about every case out there. To me it was worth it as nobody else I know has had it and it is a real attention-getter.
