Many of us started "early" in the Apple ecosystem. Like, back when Apple's only pocket-sized product was a single click-wheel iPod and iTunes only ran on a Mac. For those of use who enjoyed iTunes and spent a fortune on music (like $7,000 worth) we now find that we're locked out of using any of Apple's quick and easy methods of transferring data from an existing iPhone/iPad to a new device. We are condemned to have to back up the current device to a computer, then restore the data to the new iPhone. If we try to use any of Apple's faster and simpler methods, we get pestered incessantly for the password of our original non-email iTunes login. And entering the correct password is to no avail! I've even written to Tim Cook about this. Some assistant just gets back to me and tells me that Apple has no intention of ever fixing this. Or they "refer it to engineering" and no one ever gets back to me. Apple is great with new users. But, they're absolutely terrible at taking care of their longest term customers who have been using Apple accounts and equipment since the days of the first iPod and the earliest iTunes.
Does anyone have a workaround to get music purchased with a legacy iTunes login transferred from an existing iPhone/iPad to a new device without resorting to the backup and recovery from a computer? Note that all of this music was purchased by me, on my Apple iTunes account. It wasn't copied into my iTunes from some second person. I've since changed my Apple iTunes account to be an email address, but this doesn't help. And I know that I'm still in my iTunes account because I can re-download my purchased music within any instance of iTunes that I've authorized on my account. So, it's not as though I changed iTunes accounts and "abandoned" my earlier one, either.
