Just putting it out there to see if anyone has an issue like me. I’m receiving a call back from a certain number , my iPhone rings and when I answer it it’s silent. And immediately afterwards I get a voicemail from said number. It’s happened three times in a row so far just from this number. The voicemail says “ we’re calling you back press one to speak to a rep “. It’s an official Gov tax office. Thanks.

do you have "silence unknown callers" turned on? I believe they go to voicemail/and message is left if the caller (or robocaller) chooses.

***Be aware most official gov offices will NOT cold-call you. they will send USPS mail if it needs an official response.

Thanks for the reply. No, I don’t have silence unknown callers on. It’s not a cold caller, the NY tax office automated system in Albany allowed me to receive a call back since their wait times was long. So every time I selected option for a call back from them this happened. I’d get the call back from them, iPhone would ring, I’d pick up the call and I’d hear silence on their end. I’d then hang up after a few moments and immediately after hanging up a voicemail would be left saying something “ we’re calling you back per your request please press 1”. Obviously didn’t press one since it’s a message. lol.

It’s funny, I had exactly the same issue this week with NY State. I think their system is just bad. Unfortunately, I think the answer is you have to just wait on hold since their callback system is not good.

Thanks for the reply. Indeed, the part I don't understand is that my iPhone would ring, Id pick it up and hear silence then as soon as I hanged up I got their voicemail.

Good luck! Call early in the morning if you can. The wait times tend to get way worse as the day goes on...
