I have been to the Genius Bar four times now and even brought in my Mac Pro with the Iphone in and they could not solve any of the issues I am listing below and suggested to just wait a week for Apple to clean up the mess somehow.

Contacts push from Cloud to Mac ----Inconsitant data error Does not push down to the Mac. 1200 contacts in the cloud with 0 on the Mac so I do not want to go the other way around.

Archive Contacts from Cloud -----Export vcard did not work so there is no way to pull the contacts off of the cloud

Cloud does not automatically pull from the external email account that was added. You have to select the send / receive from the cloud to get any updates. Waited over three hours then finally just hit send/rx to get email updated.

Could not sync the phone contacts to the address book on the mac by disabling the Mobile Me settings and trying to use Itunes. Would never allow you to sync contacts..always refered to mobileMe push .

What seams to work:
Email from MobileMe address gets pushed and synced
I hope apple resolves these soon.

If anyone comes up with a solution to any of these please post. I have given up for this week and can only cross my fingers that this al gets resolved over this week.

I'm having the same problem as well.

Two days ago I upgraded to Leopard and did a clean instal. I was hoping to be able to pull down my contacts from the cloud.... Right!

Also went to the Genius bar at out local store and got the same response you did. Nada! He was genuinely helpful and tried numerous tricks to get it to work, but in the end nothing.

At least we have them in the cloud. Isn't that so reassuring?

Looks like Apple has Removed the Export option from the contacts section all together !!

I think they have given up on this now and I have still not heard from their so called specialist.

It does look like there are other 3rd party alternatives to getting the data off the phone and archived back at the computer. I have not tried this yet but am starting to look into these options further.

Apple should give us users that are still having problems since day 1 a free year of service...The generous free month is up and none of my issues have been resolved yet even though I paid up front for the service.

Any word on other ways to get the data off? Have the inconsistent data error - and the mobileme team UK isn't saying anything. Just autoreply emails, and the US chat that hasn't even been trained on mobileme.
I'm hoping they're going to come clean once they've fixed the service - but for now, even the updates on status aren't happening...

same problem here, all my contacts are in the cloud (and on iphone too).
on mac 0 contacts instead!
Apple support is totally in the ... cloud ...
a solution could be trying to export all the contacts from iPhone's backup using this third part application, named MobileSync Browser
http://homepage.mac.com/vaughn/msync/
then import all the data into Mac's address program and try to sync again with mobile me
i've no tried yet
anyone ?
other solutions ?

Unable to Sync From Cloud to PCs

It seems that this problem affects both Mac and PC users. I am unable to overwrite contacts from the cloud to my Windows XP and Vista PCs as claimed by Apple.

I had contacted the chat support and tried all suggested resolutions but none worked. I was told that an expert would contact me within 24hrs but they later said that it would be at least 48hrs later.

Still waiting for someone from Apple to contact me.

Did anyone try to install iTunes 8.0 and sync from the cloud to overwrite contacts on the PCs ?

I did. My original Sync was from Yahoo Address Book to the Cloud (wanted to switch to Outlook) and then from the Cloud to Outlook and to my iPhone. At the same time I started to Sync from Google Calendar to Outlook Calendar then to the Cloud and then to my iPhone. All working great, still.

Hi Mike,

Are you able to help me further by letting me know which version of OS and Outlook you are using and did you have 2 pcs registered in the Cloud.

For my case, I sync Outlook 07 Contacts in XP inside my office firewall to the Cloud and then to iPhone 3G successfully. I made some major changes to the contacts in the web and also sync Calendars from Outlook 07 in Vista at home to iPhone via iTunes successfully. I then tried to sync Contacts form the Cloud back to XP but got the inconsistent data error message. Tried on the Vista at home and also got the same messsage.

Have tried all the reset sync history procedures in MM control panel and iTunes and also tried re-installing iTunes 7 & then 8 with care to wipe out all iTunes data in Program and Documents & Settings folders.

Not sure what went wrong, it is so frustrating and by the way no emails from Apple...

Windows Vista and Outlook 2007. My Office Firewall is a small office type Linksys Firewall. I am NOT use Exchange which is not supported.

I do Sync with 2 computers (both Vista). However, I only Sync Contacts and Calendar on 1 and Bookmarks on the other. I do not Sync Contacts and Calendars on two computers.

I have heard a number of times about the "inconsistent data error message". I have never had the problem. I recommend you do a search on that to see what others have done to resolve it. My "guess" is that you have some contacts that have a problem. I would start over with an empty contacts file (maybe 1 entry). Then Sync that to MobileMe replacings what is there. Then add a few at a time (maybe copy them back from a backup file) to see if you can get it working again.

I have 1 contact file and about 8 calendars that I am syncing without any problems. Also, my Push email is working without problems.

Thanks Mike for sharing.

Your idea is good but I made the mistake of changing a lot of my Contacts in the Cloud so the versions in the PCs are way out of date. My first problem would be to find a way to export out the contacts from the cloud to a commonly used format for import back to Outlook. No luck so far!

Apple promised that the Cloud can sync to the Macs, PCs and iPhones and if the data are "dirty" as suspected, MobileMe should have filter them before allowing a save.

Very disappointed with MM apps and Apple tech support on this! Hope Apple honour their promises of seamless synicng from the Cloud!

I'm in the same boat too and Apple is totally silent, support not reply.
All my contact on MobileMe (and iPhone too) but on my Mac 0 contacts.
We pay a lot of money to have 0 support and a NO working services.
And now Apple begins to delete some users' posts-complaints in Apple Forum.
IT'S INACCEPTABLE !!!

Have any of you tried to Sync with Yahoo Address Book as a way to get your Contacts out of the Cloud? Once in Yahoo Address Book I believe you can then export them. This might be a way to recover your Contacts.

Then you could try to re-load the Cloud again if you want.

i've tried with Google, but MobileMe does not sync contacts from Cloud into Google.
It's a nightmare ...

Same Errors

That is why I recommended Yahoo Address Book.

Hi, it is the same thing with any other services. Apple emailed yesterday to ask for access to my contacts in MM. They have not get back to me. It seems there is a serious bug in MM.

My advise to users is not to do any changes in MM but do it in the PCs or Mac and then sync upwards to MM. This way, you till have a backup of the latest contacts in Outlook and you can terminate the account without losing any contacts.

Good luck to us all !

I have been working with an apple expert on the same problem for over a week and have finally given up. My mac and MM sync perfectly, however my Vista Outlook 2003 and XP Outlook 2003 PC's both incorrectly synced my contacts (only 475 of 1489 total) and kept giving me an inconsistent data error and not syncing either PCs calendar. Both PCs were behaving identically. After about 8 emails back and forth, I finally figured out that Outlook contact categories seemed to have a conflict with Mac contact groups. I deleted all of my groups in Mac (a real easy job, not so in Outlook) and all of my contacts synced perfectly on both machines. However I have given up on syncing Calendars. Apple couldn't offer any solution either. I am thinking that the only way to get the three computers synced is to buy two more Macs. My issue is still unresolved.

I had also suspected it was a problem with the Group tried deleting them, it was able to sync correctly with iPhone but I had the same inconsistent data error on Outlook.

Have you tried substantially adding, removing fields or the contacts in MM and then syncing back to the Macs and PCs? But please backup the contacts in the PCs or Macs if you are trying to help .:)

Luckily i have managed to get them all working well with each other but it took me just wiping outlook and putting the cloud info on the cleaned outlook. I managed to get the merged data by using another sync program (plaxo). After syncing them with plaxo (and reordering and tidying) I cleaned outlook.

When you have the cloud data on the virgin outlook then you can order it a bit better (on how you view it). I guess i was lucky as I had all these issues for a while with plaxo/mac and outlook before MM was available.
