hey guys

every time i try to find my current location in the maps application, it always ends up pinpointing to where i used to live (20 miles west of where i am now). why the hell is it thinking i am there??
it ruins all my features that use the current location, such as Yelp and what not.
SO frustrating.

is anyone else having this problem???

I only have this problem at home, anywhere else I am no problem whatsoever but at home it actually shows me 12 miles away.

it's only ever happened if i am at home on my wifi network, which the router used to be where it is telling me my current location is... odd but do you think this has something to do with it?

I'm going to assume yes. Ironically my router has never been anywhere but where it is right now but if I'm on my Wifi, the phone thinks I'm in Kansas....leave Wifi and the phone correctly pins me where I am in Virginia.

Most likely not since my router is a new one that has only been used here, I think it probably has more to do with where your ISP's junction box is or closest cell tower.

See, I have the same problem with a 3G iPhone and it seems to be GPS-related. With Wi-FI enabled or disabled, it pinpoints all the 3G iPhones that enter the apartment at the same location in Massachusetts.

The one First-Gen iPhone upgraded to 2.0 continues to show the correct location of our apartment in DC. It shows the correct location regardless of the WiFi status.

Any ideas?

Update: I've found that disabling the 3G ability on the 3G phones restores the phone's ability to accurately pinpoint me. Any thoughts?

now whenever i'm on edge, it never ends up locating me, it just "searches" to no end. 2.0 really is turning out to be a flop

I'm having this problem on 3G with firmware 3.0.

I lived in Seattle from 2001-2006. I now live in India since 2006. I am using the same wireless router here in India that I used to use in Seattle. I've omly had the iphone for 1 week.

I was on wireless in Canada recently at a cafe and it pinpointed me correctly. Now I am back in India on my home wireless and it pinpoints me in Seattle. I never lived in Seattle with my iPhone nor have visited there with my iPhone. However, while in Canada I did test out Google Earth and browsed where I used to live in Seattle with Google Earth. Any chance that is connected? Or maybe it is figuring out where the router used to be? (not sure how it would do that--router has an Indian IP of course).

I haven't signed up for a data plan yet here in India so only using it on wireless..
