Increase Windows partition size

I'm prepping to install Vista over XP (my friend says I'm downgrading, which I probably am). As I noted in an earlier post, I need to give more space to my Windows partition. Does this sequence look OK to you guys?

1. Boot from Mac OS X Install DVD. Check "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME" for errors; fix if needed.
2. Defragment "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME".
3. Use GParted or iPartition (on LiveCDs) to see how much space is left between the two partitions.
4. Boot in to Mac OS X on "Macintosh HD". Use diskutil to shrink "Macintosh HD".
5. Boot from GParted LiveCD. Use GParted to move and expand "NO NAME", remembering the buffer between partitions as determined in step 3.
6. Boot from Mac OS X Install DVD. Check "Macintosh HD" and "NO NAME" for errors; fix if needed.
7. Install Vista and pray I don't run out of space...

I hope I haven't forgotten anything.

Sorry for the tangent but am I reading this correctly? With the apps you mention I can change the size of my windows partition without starting from scratch?

That's what I'm trying to do. Or rather, I'm trying to increase my Windows partition size; decreasing it is a little different. However, I don't want to do anything until someone else thinks this will work

EDIT: Actually, if you have a backup of both Mac OS X and Windows partitions, if you could try out my procedure and confirm it to work, I would be very thankful. Starting from scratch isn't an option for me because I have no way to back up my data.

burn DVDs? personally, I wouldn't do anything major like this unless you can back your stuff up..its just not worth it if you loose everything.

If I could burn DVDs I would have backed up all my data already, and I wouldn't be having this problem. I don't have a DVD burner.

I tried to use the Partition part of my Disk Utility, but everytime I tried to drag my Mac hard drive smaller in size in order to increase the amount of memory for my Windows partition, it said it failed. Can someone please tell me how to increase the size of my Windows partitioned hard drive of my MacBook Pro?

If you change the size of the partition, the whole partition needs to be reformatted and start over from scratch.

Now that being said, there are apps out there to do this without losing the data, one of them is "Partition Magic" and it works great; but not free.
