hey guys

just moved to college (northeastern university in boston) and i would like to try to get wireless internet in my dorm to free me of this stupid ethernet cable. i just barely get a signal, but i get a ton of reception when i put my mbp up to the window. is there any way i can boost the signal into my dorm?

thanks

Buy a Linksys WRT54GL access point and put DD-WRT on it. Situate it on the window. Have the access point join the network for you and rebroadcast it locally. Will work like a hoot. They'll help you with the details on DD-WRT forums.

not allowed to have any routers/hubs/broadcasting equipment... kinda looking for a geeky solution here ;)

Welllll... there's a lot of things you're not allowed to have in the dorms but does everyone listen? Nah... you're only in trouble if you get caught, I'd say go for it, put it someplace hidden, don't let any of the RAs see you surfing wirelessly.

What signal are you picking up at the window if no wireless devices are allowed?
