The GMA950 is by no means a bad chip and can play new releases, albeit on low settings. However, for this, it is essential you have 2gb of ram, even 1gb is a little too small.

However, don't bother with gaming on OS X. Not only does Apple limit the GMA950 to 64mb of ram on OS X, which I am fairly sure is unchangable (rendering it near useless), but the 950 is slow with OpenGl, and most Mac games are ports, and so slower than the original.

The result being a vast slash in game performance on OS X.

Just "get" a copy of Windows XP, download bootcamp, and use Windows to play your games. Not only will you multiply the number of games available to you by a few quadrillion, but they'll run much much faster. Windows allows the GMA950 up to 225mb of RAM, increasing performance immensely.

Well the GMA950 is a bad chip for gaming, its good enough for the GUI in OSX but thats about it, its terrible for gaming, in fact one of the worsts (I think only the GMA900 is worse...)... I did try a few games on my MacBook, some would not run since GMA950 has dodgy support and IQ, others would run pathetically slow (unplayable) and only some games like Warcraft III and the Sims 2 on low setting swere playable and ejoyable.

Your best bet is using Windows but don't expect miracles, its not video memory whats holds back the GMA950, you can give it all your whole 2GB of RAM for all that matters and it will still have sucky performance.

No one asked about gaming on a macbook and no one asked about using it on windows. Windows uses at least 128megs with my GMA950. I want to know if there is a way to make OSX use more then 64 megs.

Unfortunately there are many people that just don't appreciate help and advice. So what if they don't answer your question, at least thank them for their input.

Anyway, the question was answered, it was said by 'Machead III' that OSX only allows 64MB of RAM to the GUI.
