watched youtube videos about elongating battery life and health of it. is there any truth that shouldnt shut down our macbooks, and should just let them sleep? and allow battery to drain to 20% and charge only to 80%? facts or fiction?

eg

or
about flushing RAM?

There's lots of advice out there, some may be good, some may not be. You're asking for best practices. Since Apple provides an optimized battery charge level setting and other recommendations to prolong battery life, it's worth reading from the source:

"Optimized Battery Charging helps to reduce the wear on your battery and improve its lifespan by learning your daily charging routine. It delays charging the battery past 80% when it predicts that you’ll be plugged in for an extended period of time, and aims to charge the battery before you unplug. You can change this option in Battery preferences."

I like to just use my MacBooks as I please and if it needs a new battery down the road, I'll have one put in ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Watching my battery levels like a hawk sounds like work I'd rather not do.

The M1 MacBooks are incredible with power consumption, so I'm finding that helps in any case, as I'm just not going through anywhere near as many cycles on my M1 Air as I had to on my Intel Air. It gets 2-3x the battery life, so I'm charging it 1/2 to 1/3 as often.

I've had MacBooks for 15+ years and I do not recall that at least starting with my 203 MBA I ever intentionally shut down, always just close the lot incl when traveling for extended times.
And I second the above, my M1 MBA battery life is incredible, have been getting 15+ hrs (which of course depends on your usage)

you mean you dont shut down your mba? why? l always thought that shutting down a computer will refresh it, almost like a human sleeping for 8 hours, wake up refreshed? so leave new mac books or airs on and just sleep it? how about an old mbpr 2012?

no need with MacOS ... the only ones I have shut down were the ones with spinning hard drives, but with SSD ... The only time I reboot my Macs is when I install a OS update, or should I install SW that requires reboot (not a lot do).
But for day-to-day use, no need to shut down ... but, if you prefer to shutdown, go for it ...
