Indesign CS2 to PDF Help!! Low memory message!!

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I publish a newspaper and normally have no problem exporting our Indesign (CS2/Mac) to a pdf so that I can place it on our website. I keep getting this message after it almost completes the export, "not enough memory." Well obviously I took the computer today and went from 1 GB to 2GB, tried to re-export it again and I keep getting that message. What does it mean? I tried to print it as a pdf file, and it came out a mess with wrong fonts and everything! I'd rather not go that route, I just want to know what do I have to do to export it normally and not get that "low memory" message! I need an answer asap since our new issue was supposed to be up already 2 days ago!!!!!!!:eek:
 
That often happens when your have a transparency-filled or otherwise complex Illustrator EPS in the job. Too many points or layers. Could be even within the InDesign document itself.

What kind of Mac do you have? Is it an Intel Mac because then CS2 is running through Rosetta which places additional burdens on the machine. If so, give serious thought to upgrading to CS3 at a minimum.

What elements make up the document? Any complex blends and and so forth?

The first thing I'd try is to export pages or sections individually, see what works and where it chokes, fix what I can to get the troublesome page to export correctly... and then stitch it all back together in Acrobat Pro which you should have.

Or I'd try printing a postscript file out of it and putting it through Distiller, but in your case, that may lead to the same problem. And no, printing to PDF through OS X is a waste of time.
 
O.k. I think I found the eps file that must be holding it up, what shall I do to fix that? I have to have the ad in, so..

Depends on which way it's complex. Lots of layers? Lots of points? Lots of transparency? Embedded rasterised images?

Before doing anything with it, make a duplicate of your InDesign document and work with that, so you've still got your original. Remove the EPS from it and try exporting the InDesign document as a test PDF without it, narrowing down the cause to see if that's truly the problem.

Maybe its possible for you to export or save the eps as a jpeg or png to place into the InDesign file and lowere its memory demand.
