Hi, I'm building a site for my client and uploaded the finished site today.
The problem is, when I go to http://www.domainname.com, it does not take me to index.htm, but to the previous home page which was not called
index.htm. THe weird thing is, I had eliminated all of those
old files off the server, so why the heck is the entire old site still showing up??
And why isn't my index.htm showing up as the default homepage??
I can't find a .htaccess file anywhere, so I don't know what the heck the settings are for this site. It's one of those sites where I have to use something like FileZilla just to upload everything.

any suggestions would be appreciated on how I can get index.htm to be the default home page.

If the old pages are still showing up even though you deleted them from the server, your browser has probably cached them. Hold down shift when you click reload and that will override the cache.

Sounds dumb, but make sure you uploaded your files to the proper directory.
If you did, it probably is just the cache.

You can't find an .htaccess file? Is it a Windows server? They use default.htm instead of index.html I believe.
