Infuse Pro vs nPlayer Plus

Which one do you prefer and why ?

So far I had 2 or 3 crashes while watching a video with Infuse Pro 4, when that was the latest version out. Very annoying. It was on my iPad Air 2.

So far as long as I been using nPlayer Plus no such crashes.

nPlayer Pro = can play a lot of music formats e.g. mp3 for actual music tracks (so not audio alone with a video)
Infuse = has opensubtitles.org support

Other then that both support all major codecs and video file types as far as I know and can automatically download metadata of tv series and movies.

- Supports HEVC hardware decoding (iOS 11)
- Supports Files app (iOS 11)
- Supports 'Send Anywhere'
- Supports the setting of audio delay time for each audio device
- Supports the setting of time for image slideshow
- Supports the feature to add more than one subtitles

- Fixes the noise issue from built-in speaker of iPhone7/7+ (iOS 11)
- Fixes the issue of failing to open a PDF file in iXpand
- Fixes the issue of failing to connect to Chromecast with iXpand.
- Fixes others bugs

In my opinion nPlayer is better than Infuse due to a few features that are still not available in the iOS version. However if we purchase Infuse we can also use in ATV, since nPlayer is not available there yet (I doubt it ever will...).

Some minor changes could be implemented in Infuse, and the developer is either holding for future releases or not interested. While that remains the case for all of them I'll stick with nPlayer in iOS.

P.S. If I were to list the three major downsides from Infuse:

1) No support for audio files (MP3, FLAC...)

2) No support for Google Drive shared contents (ex: you have multiple accounts and share the contents from accounts #2 and #3 with #1. If you log into account #1 in nPlayer you can see the contents from all three. In Infuse you can only see what's inside account #1)

3) No support for custom gestures:

A bug was introduced in iOS 11. As you can see, random black screens for a specific Matroska file:

I already notified them, hope they fix this soon.

P.S. It seems this bug was a temporary slowdown. Video seems OK now.

Update: My mistake. The bug has returned, and it is indeed confirmed by me. Let's see if they will fix:

Update: it seems there are some bugs still being fixed for iOS 11. The issue I reported seems to have vanished, however I saw returning a few times so there's no way for me to tell it's gone. And judging by what others said there are some serious problems still around.

I'll wait for the next update.

About the Apple-TV version, this is what the developer said about it:

nPlayer for Apple TV version was under development. However we have decided to hold off on Apple TV version, because Android version is in last stages of development. It is hard to say the precise release dates because the development environment and priority are fluid. We would appreciate your understanding. Version 3.7.2 from nPlayer Plus was released today. It only says "bug fixes and stability improvements". I believe the issues I reported are no longer happening.

I've been using this app every single day and for ages, here's my two cents: the performance has increased a lot with iOS 12 in the iPAD Pro 10.5 (256 GB, wifi+cell). Totally worth the update. I was using iOS 10.3.2 since day 1 in this iPAD (October 2017).

And indeed videos with the HEVC/H.265 codec must have improved. I created a reencode from a FRAPS file and tried playing in Google Drive. It played OK, but there was a bit in it that got "stuck", you could hear the audio but the video paused for a brief moment. This doesn't happen with iOS 12.

Try part #1 from pastebin, and skip to the intro. In the intro it was pausing right before the announcer said the name of the game.

So my Google Drive videos and everything else is smooth now.

Oh, and another very, very, veeeeeeeeeery important fact:

- Now my Matroska lossless Ultra-HD-Blu-ray (4K, 2160p) videos extracted from the original discs (forgive me for being redundant) are 100% working! They were very slow in iOS 10.3.2, no one could play them. And I thought all this time this was due to the iPAD/iPhone not being advanced enough, since my PC (Core i7 4770) was able to do it...

I was more puzzled by the fact this iPAD and iOS 10.3.2 were able to run 4K videos that were not extracted from the original UHD-BD discs. I thought this was due to some codec not being supported due to being too much CPU intensive.

Not at all... after the update this file (in my case part 1 of 4 from The Matrix (1999), which has 14-15 GB) was uploaded quickly to nPlayer (using this 2nd combo) and is running normal, just like any other video.

This is excelent news, it means all these movies being released in 4K can be played in this iPAD, without any reencode.

The "2nd player" is Infuse Pro 4.3.7, released in December 8, 2017! More than 1 year ago!

And nPlayer, which received the last update in November 21, 2018, is not capable of playing this specific file.

So, which app is best these days, for iOS/iPADOs users? I have nPlayer and have purchased infuse in the past, but it's been years since I checked what they are up to again.

The lack of support for audio files as the user pointed out was a bummer and one of the reasons that kept me from using Infuse often (don't know if they fixed this). Since Infuse gained many updates over the years, I wonder if it has improved substantially.

nPlayer, on the other hand, as much good as it is, apparently isn't receiving many updates and support. The blog's last entry is from 2019:

Yet don't be hasty to tell Infuse crushes nPlayer and there's no competition here.

Unless Infuse's developer manages to implement every single thing nPlayer already has (if this is feasible, of course), then we can't really say one completely replaces the other.
