Inserting Date/Time?

Is there a shortcut to insert the current date and time within a note or anywhere else? A search of this forum did not uncover any such trick.

An auto-updating current date and time or a "when I wrote the note" current date and time?

Because the latter is applied when you save the note.

I'd like to note the times that I wrote each item within the note. Basically, the equivalent of the "insert time" feature in word. Is there some app that allows one to do this?
