Well it seems that this is an issue the developer needs to sort out, although you may be able to find some mirrors somewhere.

Erm, is there an echo in here? :p Oh, Safari 3, I see. Sowwies. :( Anyway, just to clarify:

The site I linked caches it on mirrors not run by the developer. I tried downloading it just three minutes ago without any problems. :p The download appeared legitimate and it's the current version, AFAIK (1.2).

Yeah there is indeed an echo. I had this page open with Safari 3 while i was creating the reply. Then Safari 3 crashed, while the tab was open. It seems as if the message was posted even though I was still on the compose page. I think just reopend all tabs from last session or whatever it was called and rewrote the message, without noticing that my post was automatically posted. Hence the echo.

have you guys heard of any problems with this (ie over heating)

I have to give you a complex answer....

I think, basically, it's fine as long as you use it in situations in which you could be using clamshell mode -- e.g. it's fine with any Macbook, MBP, or Al PB sitting on a hard surface, plugged into wall power. If you're worried about heat, you might avoid using Processor:Highest in System Prefs -> Energy Saver. Where it is probably *not* safe is when you use it with a computer that was not designed to do clamshell (e.g. any iBook) or you use it to allow yourself to move the computer around with it on. Your chances of toasting the HD at some point are fairly high if you use InsomniaX to do something like keep your Mac on while it's in your backpack. That's a no no.

Otherwise, you should be fine.

Sorry guys about the website outage, its all back online now and im working with the next release to move InsomniaX onto mirrors to prevent outages again.

I have actually had a report of someone using InsomniaX and a MacBook in their bag by accident, lets just say it didnt go down to well. However from some quick surveys i found that the MacBooks did not increase in heat by much during clamshell/insomniax operations, but i am working on a method to detect a overheat to prevent any dangers to a machine.

PS. If you do have concerns i recommend using a temp application and see what changes are visible in the temps when the lid as closed, some users have also reported using fan control applications useful for keep the machine even colder when in clamshell/insomniax

Thanks for chiming in, Semaja! Glad to see you're back in biznezz! :)

I guess both the MacBook and the MBP now have sudden motion sensors that are supposed to park the drive. And yet, even considering that, and how much abuse an iPod HD can take (cough, running marathons, cough), I agree, that it'll be a long time before I would feel safe doing anything like that. People come to MR periodically who are obsessed with being able to walk around campus with their notebook in their computer, turned on, so that they are not logged out of IM. I just shudder!

Im always in business ;) can never stop coding... unless work gets in its way *expect piles of updates once my work load disappears*

However i think a better use then using it to keep IM connected is make one big giant iPod :D *please do not really jog with your iPook :S*

PS. Remember if the site goes down for some reason, and someone reads this thread in the future, feel free to PM me and i will do my best to help you out
