So something has really been bothering me about the Android Instagram app. Despite the incredible cameras we have on our Androids, Instagram does not seem to take full advantage of them. Taking for example an Insta Story Boomerang on my P30 Pro vs my iPhone, the result is completely different, on the iPhone it’s super smooth while on my P30 Pro and other Androids its a bit choppy. Same thing with doing a regular Insta Story video.

Is there something missing on how FB optimise the app for the different platforms? Is it an API issue?

Yep. It's only the Pixel that doesn't suffer from this issue.
I can always tell when watching people's stories whether it's been taken on an iPhone or Android as it's night and day.

Indeed. Between Facebook and the OEMs, something needs to be done, it makes no sense at all. Huawei and Samsung have the best cameras around yet people who own a S10 or P30 have Insta stories and Instagram pics/vids that look average.

Yeah it’s not as good. However for me it doesn’t matter as I don’t ever post to Instagram. I occasionally look at my feed.

I don’t know how well the S10 works with instagram now as they made a big deal at the unpacked event about it being instagram ready.

S10 camera works natively in instagram. It's the only Android phone to do so as far as I know.

Does it? I thought they added an Instagram mode into their camera app which allowed you to directly post rather than actually using Instagrams camera?

From my memory, video shot on Instagram with the S10 still looked rough.

Instagram is for kids lol

I can just about get my head around Facebook and Twitter. I don’t even know how to use snapchat and instagram is a fumble in the dark for me.

I only use instagram and twitter. I closed my facebook account last year. Instagram is only as good as the people you follow.

Off topic but I disagree with this. Say you’re a tattoo artist, make fitness videos to help people or photographer for example (amongst many other subjects), Instagram is a great way for your work to be seen. As it’s focused on pics/videos and not text or sharing links.
I’ve never thought about it like that. That’s a good use for it.

I still have my Facebook account but I barely post on it or even check it. I like Twitter.

Like with anything, they'll always be a massive amount of crap on there as well! But I use it to view good content, not to follow people just because I know them.

As for why Android often looks worse quality than iOS, surely Android is more than capable and it's just how the apps have been made? Shouldn't be an issue in 2019 with the tech we have today!

Lol that couldn't be further from the truth. Snapchat is for kids.
Lots of professional adults I work with all use it and all prefer it over Facebook and twitter.

Preach! This is my thoughts on all social media.

There was a time where I nearly deleted Twitter, yet I also found it such a good tool, so what I did was I went on an Unfollow and Mute binge, and instantly it became much better.

Same with Facebook and Instagram, simply Unfollowed useless accounts I followed before and Muted people who were annoying or boring (some acquaintances , some colleagues , some just share unnecessary stuff).

It’s amazing how great your timeline is once you figure out what you want out of it, but it does take some working on.
