Install 10.11 on macOS Disc

I need to run a legacy program, which will only run up to 10.11, however all of my machines are now on macOS.

Unfortunately the software doesn't run in VM so can't go that route.

So trying the dual boot option.
I've tried to create a 10.11 installer disk using DiskMaker X but neither my MacBook or my MBP will read the 10.11 installer disk - is that right?

Just buy a bootable El Capitan USB stick installer on Amazon. Cheap. I just got one for my 2010 Mac Mini because I'm lazy and it works perfectly. Stick it in, hold option key & turn on computer. Choose the installer. Piece of cake. Easy Peasy.

Do you have the full "Install OS X El Capitan" app?
If yes or you can download it then try using the createinstallmedia command:

Your installer app will need to be in your Applications folder. The USB thumb drive will need to be 8 GB or greater and formated Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and named Untitled.

Here is the command line for terminal:

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app --nointeraction

Just copy & paste that into Terminal and hit enter, it should ask for your Admin password and then the OS will create a factory restore media from the USB stick and the El Capitan installer (Note: it can take 30-45min depending on speed of flash drive, so don't remove the USB drive or exit terminal until it says it's finished)
