Is it possible to install 12.4 over the 12.5 beta? Right now it is downloading 12.4 but I am wondering if it will work once the download is actually complete.

I have been having issues with apps not re-launching from the dock, once they have been minimised since today and I would like to go back to the final release (12.4) before potentially taking it to the Apple Store for a 2nd opinion., otherwise they will probably be like "sorry ... beta software, cannot help".

It is so weird, no matter which App I have open. Once I minimise or close it to the dock and I want to launch the app again, the app window does not appear, only the menu bar changes without the app content. I have to force quit each app to relaunch it until it starts all over again

You can't easily downgrade back to 12.4. I had the same issue with beta 5 and I did successfully downgrade to beta 4 using the restore macOS Beta option. I did this 2 days ago so hopefully they didn't update the build using this method. There's no way to tell until after it's finished and you look at the build number again.

Shut down your computer and power it back on by holding down the power button. This will invoke login options mode. Select Options and there will be an option to restore macOS Beta. Choose this option and it should restore your Mac with beta 4. All your data is safe.

You can't downgrade in this way. At best it'll leave the computer in an unsupported state that's unlikely to work any better.

thank you and glad I am not the only one with the issue. Must be beta 5 related then. Surprised I haven’t read anything about it prior.

I tried to do what you just said but for some reason it refused to let me install on my default Macintosh volume. It said something like „this volume cannot be used“

I erased the whole volume now and will start from scratch. I have most of my stuff in the cloud anyway. It’s installing the latest final release now. Fingers crossed.

Also, when it asked me to confirm my appleID, it didn’t do the „@„ and some weird sign instead. Almost caused me another heart attack. Had to change the input keyboard from „German - default“ to German to get the @ sign typed.

I have a Time Machine back up from earlier today. I don’t think I should use it to restore my settings? I don’t want the bug to be carried over after all.

That's strange, not sure what the issue is on your machine, maybe free storage?
I don't think you will be able to restore your 12.5-made backup to 12.4 but it should prompt you if you can or can't. The issue is definitely caused by 12.5 beta 5 and not your settings as downgrading to beta 4 for me fixed it.

Unfortunately this didn't work for me - installer said "This volume cannot be downgraded" on my M1 Max MacBook Pro. Not sure if I was too late and it's been updated so beta 4 isn't showing anymore....

Although you may not be able to easily roll back to Monterey 12.4, you can install 12.5 beta 4 (21G5056b) by running the Full 12.5 b4 installer over your 12.5 b5 installation.

This won't revert the firmware, recovery etc (which will still be on the 12.5 b5 version), but will give you a more useable system. The 12.5 b5 has been very problematic for me, but reverting to b4 in this way has provided a temporary solution until b6 is released.

You can download the full installer for b4 from the 21G5056b link at the Mr Macintosh site.

This worked for me too, also MBP M1 Max. Big download - nearly 12GB - but installed and back to full working system with the exception of iMessages which no longer has my message history. Advice on another thread is to log out and log in again to iMessages, but that didn't work. The messages are still stashed away on the drive, so I may be able to relink them at some point.....

This worked for me on my M1 Max MBP. Now if only I could ignore the beta 5 update...
