install another proccessor?

i know i can expand, install, replace or upgrade memory and hard drive.
but can i do this on proccessor? is't complicated?
im planning on buying mac pro (2013). but can't afford the maximum specs.

my options are
buy low specs now. and upgrade later (if i can tweak the proccessor)
or save money and buy later the maximum specs. (if not)

There are some options, i am gearing up myself. What system do you have?
Seems pretty straight forward, hardest part is getting the fan and memory cage out (i've done it before). Lots of people have had success. I will be collecting more info this week before buying the processors.

You can do it on the processor as well. Difficulty is mediocre if you have the right tools and are not scared by some DIY work.

For 1,1 machines there are even video tutorials that show precisely how to do it (don't know if something similar also exists for later models).

Most important: If you buy low specs now that usually means single CPU. In that case it's very costly to go to max spec (aka dual CPU) later. Better to get the cheapest dual-CPU variant from the beginning.

yeah, at first i was looking at the x5365 pair for my 1,1. They are running at around $200 each, 350 a pair. I was going to wait until the next big job, but then looked at the x5355's and saw they are around 120 a pair (all used from ebay). It is also possible to get the 5355's overclocked to 3 ghz.
